No. 13 Men's Golf Readies for Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Pepperdine men's golf is ready to attack its second fall tournament this weekend at the 20th annual Fighting Illini Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Illinois.

The field for the Fighting Illini Invitational consists of 15 total teams, including Pepperdine, Arizona State, Stanford, Texas Tech, Illinois, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Northwestern, Florida State, Texas A&M, Baylor, UNLV, and Georgia Tech.

Because holes six and 10 were changed from a par 5 to a par 4, the course will play at par 70, spanning just over 7,200 yards. Due to a stretch of inclement weather forecasted for Saturday and Sunday, the teams will play a continuous 36 holes on Friday before beginning the final round on Saturday, carrying into Sunday if needed.

Pepperdine is coming off the Sahalee Players Championship, in which the Waves finished in a tie for 10th out of 12 squads. It was a rough outing for nearly all dozen teams except Oklahoma State, who finished four-under as a team. All other 11 squads shot at least 24-over. A pair of freshmen, Luke Ringkamp and Ayden Fynaut, paced Pepperdine at five-over (11th-place) and seven-over (17th-place), respectively. Senior Willy Walsh tied for 25th overall after carding nine-over.
