Laine Briggs, Tristen Raymond Earn WCC Women's Volleyball Weekly Awards

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - A successful weekend for Pepperdine women's volleyball at the Alyssa Cavanaugh Classic paved the way for Laine Briggs and Tristen Raymond to earn a pair of West Coast Conference weekly awards.

Briggs received Defensive Player of the Week and Raymond garnered Setter of the Week.

One of four seniors on the team, Briggs has her second Defensive Player of the Week award of her career after amassing her first last year on October 27. She was excellent against Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, and James Madison last weekend, tallying 55 digs (exactly five per set) while recording a reception percentage of 91.7 percent. Briggs also chipped in offensively with six assists.

Pepperdine is back home this week to face UC Santa Barbara on Friday night before battling 16th-ranked USC in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Raymond now has three Setter of the Week accolades to her name. The sophomore earned a pair of them last year (Sept. 22 and Oct. 20), and this past weekend, the Peoria, Arizona native recorded her 1,000th career assist.
