No. 27 Men's Tennis Prepares for WCC Semifinal Matchup Versus Santa Clara

FAIRFIELD, Calif. - The postseason has arrived. No. 27 Pepperdine men's tennis (16-8, 6-1 WCC) will take on Santa Clara, the number three seed in the conference tournament. The Waves are the number two seed.

Santa Clara beat sixth-seeded Saint Mary's by a final of 4-1 earlier Thursday afternoon, setting up for the battle against Pepperdine.

Pepperdine most recently played the Broncos on April 9 in Malibu, handling business in a 4-1 victory. The Waves moved up a slot in the team ITA rankings this week, climbing from 28th to 27th, while Santa Clara took a leap from No. 44 to No. 35.

Following the victory over the Broncos just a few weeks ago, the blue and orange are 31-1 overall against Santa Clara, which includes a 10-match winning streak. The Broncos don't have any ranked singles players but the duo of Luca Bluett and John Kim has risen to No. 63 in the doubles rankings. That combination was blanked by the Waves' Lasse Poertner and Aleksa Pisaric 6-0 in the match on April 9.

The Waves were recently honored with nine All-Conference Awards. Lasse Poertner earned Singles All-Conference First Team alongside Edward Winter, while Aleksa Pisaric garnered Singles All-Conference Second Team recognition. Freshman Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida, David Fix, and Maxi Homberg were all Honorable Mentions. The duo of Pisaric and Poertner earned Doubles All-Conference Second Team in addition to the tandem of brother Edward and Hugh Winter. The combination of Homberg and Almeida collected Doubles All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Both Edward and Hugh Winter also garnered All-Academic honors, with Hugh being an honorable mention.
