Baseball Falls to Loyola Marymount in Series Finale

"It was unfortunate that we couldn't finish off the weekend with a sweep, but we did some great things this weekend," said Head Coach Tyler LaTorre. "We came out a little unfocused today. Kudos to LMU for taking advantage of their opportunities. I was happy to see some of our guys come off the bench and have great at bats. Specifically, Finley Buckner had a huge pinch-hit 3-run homerun and then hit another 2-run homerun in his second at bat."
The Waves went down in order to start the game before falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the frame on a balk. Joshua Woodworth started the second by smacking a double to the right-center field gap but was cut off at third base one batter later on a groundout, and the inning stalled.
LMU extended its lead to 4-0 after a three-run third inning, consisting of two runs scored via a bases-loaded walk by Waves starter Collin Valentine. Pepperdine responded with a Kai Laxa RBI double that found the left field corner, getting the Waves on the board and cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Lions responded immediately with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, capped by a RBI double from Zion Williams. LMU blew the game wide open in the fifth with a four-spot to go up 10-1.Finley finds a way! 👊 @FinleyBuckner

In the sixth, Finley Buckner pinch-hit for Max Aude and demolished a three-run blast over the Blue Monster. Buckner destroyed another home run in the eighth, a two-run shot, but it wasn't enough as the Waves lost 13-6.
"If we continue to stay focused on what we do well, play team baseball, and control what we can control, we will have weekends like we did these past three days the rest of the year," added LaTorre.
GAME NOTES
- Each squad had 12 hits and two errors.
- The Waves stranded eight, while the Lions left seven on base.
