Beach Volleyball Concludes Regular Season; Suffers Defeats Against No. 6 Cal Poly and No. 2 Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Pepperdine beach volleyball (24-14) was defeated 5-0 by No. Cal Poly (26-8) and 5-0 by No. 2 Stanford (33-3) on the second day of the Stanford West Coast Classic.Â
"We are proud to have reached 24 total wins," head coach Marcio Sicoli said. "But we are most proud of the grit we had dealing with four very tough opponents. We welcome the challenges the WCC Championships bring, and we're ready to play the role of underdogs and make waves!"

The Waves suffered a sweep at the hands of the Mustangs. Gabbie Perez and Maddy Snow were able to steal a set from the nation's sixth-ranked squad, 21-16, but fell in three.Â
Deanie Woodruff and Emma Bubelis were reunited on flight five for the first time since March 28. The two had played every match with one another prior to their scrap against Saint Mary's. Bella Avelar and Evie Doezema had made spot starts during Woodruff's absence.Â

The Cardinal prevented Pepperdine from getting on the board, taking each point in straight sets. Gabbie Perez and Maddy Snow pushed their second set to 46 total serves, but fell 24-22. Bubelis and Woodruff were the next closest, falling 23-21 in an effort to prevent the sweep.Â

Pepperdine's 24 wins is the third most in program history, and its most since 2018.Â
The team will now turn its attention to the West Coast Conference Championships, set to be contested in Santa Monica on April 23 and 24. A full bracket and schedule will be announced by the conference in the coming days.

Established in 2011, Pepperdine beach volleyball quickly rose to national prominence, winning two national championships in three years (2012, 2014) while reaching the final four in five of its first six seasons. Joining the WCC ahead of the 2016 season with the sport becoming NCAA-sanctioned, the Waves won the inaugural and first three WCC Championships while reaching eight straight conference championship games from 2016-24. The program has consistently recruited top talent in the sport, with 21 student-athletes garnering All-American honors since 2012.
