
No. 9 Women's Tennis Hosts LMU & Saint Mary's to Conclude Regular Season

MALIBU, Calif. — No. 9 Pepperdine women's tennis (14-4, 5-0 WCC) will conclude the regular season this week with a pair of home conference matches from Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves welcome LMU (9-8, 4-2 WCC) Tuesday at 2 p.m. before taking on Saint Mary's (7-11, 3-3 WCC) Friday at noon.

Friday's final home regular season match comes without the usual senior day festivities, as the Waves will return their entire roster next season, exemplifying the unique youthfulness of the Pepperdine lineup this season.
The Waves are coming off a 4-0 victory on April 3rd over No. 39 San Diego, as Pepperdine sits at the top of the table in the WCC with a 5-0 conference record. Pepperdine can clinch a share of the regular season title with a win Tuesday, and the outright title with two wins this week.
Živa Falkner, Chantal Sauvant and Duru Söke each earned singles and doubles wins over the Toreros last time out. Söke combined with Shihomi Leong in doubles while Sauvant and Falkner earned their first win in their first appearance as a pair this season.
Five Waves currently sit in the ITA singles rankings, featuring Anastasiia Grechkina (No. 20), Živa Falkner (No. 33), Sonja Zhiyenbayeva (No. 42), Chantal Sauvant (No. 112) and Duru Söke (No. 113).
Grechkina has gone 5-2 in her last seven decisions in singles, and will feature at the No. 2 position to begin play this week.
Falkner has won three straight singles matches and sits 7-6 this season at the No. 1 position for the Waves.
Zhiyenbayeva boasts a team-high 12 singles wins while falling just twice, each to top-50 ranked opponents.
Sauvant has won six straight singles matches and now sits at 10-4 this spring, including 7-2 at the No. 4 position and 5-0 in WCC matches.
Söke has gone unbeaten this season in singles, registering an 11-0 record to this point in the season.
Alexia Harmon is also riding a singles winning streak, now at nine straight matches. Harmon is 11-2 on the season as a whole, including 3-0 in WCC matchups.
On the doubles side, Falkner and Zhiyenbayeva are currently ranked No. 12 in the ITA doubles rankings. The duo have recorded a 7-1 record as a tandem this season, which includes a 4-0 mark against nationally ranked doubles pairs.
Sauvant and Grechkina have combined to go 7-2 as a doubles pairing at the No. 2 position for the Waves, with Söke and Leong coming in at 8-3 on the season together.
LMU enters with a 9-8 overall record this season as the Lions are currently riding a three-match winning streak. They've picked up wins over Portland, Seattle and Santa Clara these past two weeks to improve to 4-2 in WCC play. Pepperdine leads the all-time series with the Lions, 45-2, with LMU's most recent win coming in 2003. The Waves are also 26-0 in Malibu against the Lions.
Saint Mary's has posted a 3-3 record in the conference, most recently falling at Portland and versus San Diego. The Waves have won 27 of 31 matches all-time against the Gaels, and are currently riding a 12-match winning streak in the series. Pepperdine is 10-1 in Malibu all-time against the Gaels.
The Waves will head to the WCC Championships next, held at Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, Calif. from April 23-25.
