MALIBU, Calif. – No. 6 Pepperdine men's volleyball team's (11-4)
Jose Gomez secured his first conference award of his collegiate career with a MPSF Defensive Player of the Week nod, the conference announced Monday.
Playing two matches on the road against No. 3 Hawaii, Gomez collected 24 kills, hitting .353 across the weekend. With nine digs and five blocks to tack on, the sophomore was an integral part of Pepperdine's win over the Rainbow Warriors Wednesday night, hitting .450 in the four-set upset.
The Cuba native stepped in as a starter part-way through the season and has taken ownership of his new role. Averaging over two kills per set and nearly three points per set this season, Gomez outperformed his stats in the two-match stretch with an average of 3.0 kills per set and 3.56 points per set.
