MALIBU, Calif. — No. 25 Pepperdine men's tennis (3-2) earned a 4-0 victory over No. 24 Arizona State (9-1) Sunday afternoon from Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
The Waves claimed the doubles before taking a pair of straight set singles victories from
Edward Winter and
Lasse Poertner, with
Maxi Homberg then clinching the match with a third set triumph.
"This group looks more comfortable every match facing adversity, and today it felt like they really embraced and enjoyed the pressure," said Director of Tennis

Hugh Winter and
Edward Winter improved to 2-0 on the weekend and season in doubles, picking up a 6-2 win on court two to begin doubles play. After dropping the match on court one,
Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida and
David Fix secured the doubles point for the Waves on three, with a 6-3 triumph.
After dropping just three games in his singles win Friday, Poertner remained in form with an impressive (6-1, 6-0) victory on court three to put the Waves ahead 2-0. He improved to 3-2 on the season with the pair of wins this weekend.
On court one,
Edward Winter also earned a two-set win to push the Pepperdine lead to 3-0. Winter cruised in set one to a 6-2 scoreline, before falling behind 5-2 in the second set. Winter battled through to win five straight games and claim a 7-5 victory in the second for the win.
With three matches going to a third set, it was
Maxi Homberg rebounding from a 6-2 loss in the first set, eventually clinching the match for the Waves at flight two. Homberg came back to win the second set, 6-3, before a 7-5 victory in the third to give Pepperdine the 4-0 team win.
Aleksa Pisaric was just two points away from clinching the match on four when Homberg halted play for the remaining courts. Pisaric won the first set 6-4, before dropping set two (3-6), and had a 5-2 lead in the third while serving up 30-0.
Almeida had a battle on court with each of the first two sets going to a tiebreak. He took the first tiebreak 9-7 with the second tiebreak being abandoned.
On six, Daivd Fix rebounded after dropping the first set with a 7-3 tiebreak win in the second. The third set was at a 1-1 scoreline when the match was clinched.
