The Waves got out on the front foot with a 25-17 win in the first set and a 25-18 triumph in the second set to jump ahead early. The Lions responded to take the third set, 25-21, with Pepperdine returning in the fourth for a 25-21 win to clinch the match.
Ella Piskorz led the Waves with 13 kills while Mariia Nikol Dvornikova logged a dozen. The Waves had 14 blocks compared to eight for the Lions, led by Tristen Raymond (six) and Irelynd Lorenzen (five).
"We talk about the will to win and how to be the aggressor, the one going for it, and continuing to push," said head coach Scott Wong following the win. "Today, we weren't at our best but we continued to respond with an impressive attitude of we can and we will."
The teams began with a back and forth sequence to begin, with no team leading by more than two points as LMU held an early 10-9 advantage. Pepperdine then made its run with Charis Kai serving, going a 6-0 run to jump out to a 15-10 lead.

It was an even start to the second set as well, with the teams trading blows until the scoreline read 12-12. The Waves made their move once again, going on a 9-2 spurt to open up a lead, capped by consecutive kills from Chloe Pravednikov.
The Waves had eight blocks in the second set while holding the Lions to a negative hitting percentage, claiming the set by a score of 25-18.
LMU responded in the third set as 1-0 was the only lead the Waves would hold. Five Waves recorded multiple kills in the set, as Pepperdine kept it close, with LMU taking it by a score of 25-21.
Pepperdine would not allow the game to go to a fifth set, claiming the fourth by a 25-21 scoreline. Piskorz led the way down the stretch with five kills in the set, with Dvornikova adding three.
After leading 20-19, Piskorz notched consecutive kills with Lorenzen putting the finishing touch on the match with the final kill of the contest, to push Pepperdine to 6-1 in conference play.
