MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine men's tennis players Linus Carlsson Halldin and Maxi Homberg made the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
To earn the award, players must have a 3.50 grade point average or better, plus compete in at least 50% of their team's scheduled dual matches. This is the second academic award for both Carlsson Halldin and Homberg, who made the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team in late April.
Carlsson Halldin graduated from Pepperdine this past spring with his bachelor's degree in finance. The team captain from Stockholm, Sweden maintained a 3.62 grade point average throughout his final season at Pepperdine.
On the court, Carlsson Halldin was a second-team all-conference selection in singles and doubles, plus he had a knack for clinching the Waves' biggest matches of the season. Carlsson Halldin capped off the Waves' upset win over No. 9 Columbia, a top-25 win at Arizona State, Pepperdine's first win at UCLA since 2006 and the Waves' semifinal sweep of Santa Clara in the WCC Semifinals.
A rising senior from Freising, Germany, Homberg maintained a 3.57 grade point average while pursuing his bachelor's degree in business administration. He made the WCC All-Academic First Team for the first time in his career this season.
Homberg also had a stellar season on the court. In the fall, he earned ITA All-American honors for the first time in his career and reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championship. During the spring season, Homberg was ranked as high as 32nd in the nation, plus he was a first-team all-conference selection in singles and a second-team all-conference member in doubles.
Both players will be eligible for the CSC Academic All-American team, which will be announced on June 4 at 9 a.m. PT.
Carlsson Halldin, Homberg and the Waves went 17-11 this season, earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament and won a postseason match for the fourth time in five years.
