BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team visited Bakersfield for the second midweek game against the roadrunners, losing 1-18.
Â
With just two hits on the night, the Waves (10-31, 5-10) were denied by the Roadrunners (16-27, 7-11) on offense, pitching 10 in an effort to find any momentum on the defensive side of the ball in the Tuesday night game.
Â
BIG WAVES
Â
With a single tonight, senior infielder
Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) had gotten a hit in seven of the past nine games.
Â
Redshirt sophomore outfielder
Joe Cardinale (Salinas, Calif.) coming off a .500 day against the Roadrunners yesterday, notched a single today for a total of three hits across the two games against CSU Bakersfield.
Â
RECAP
Â
Six games in an eight-day span proved to be taxing for the Waves. Pepperdine struggled all night on the offensive side of the ball with just two hits through nine innings of play. CSU Bakersfield scored in nearly every inning, with their most productive inning coming in the fourth with six runs scored.Â
The first hit for the Waves came off the bat of Cardinale in the sixth inning with a single to center field. Without another hit in the inning, the runner would be stranded and the next hit would come in the following inning thanks to a single from Rubin.Â
Scoring in the ninth, the sole run for Pepperdine came from an RBI groundout from senior utility player Andrew Savage (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) to score senior outfielder Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo) who reached initially on a walk.
Â
The Tuesday night game ended with a score of 18-1 in favor of CSU Bakersfield.
