MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team broke a five-game losing streak with a midweek win over CSU Bakersfield Monday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

The Waves (10-30, 5-10) secured nine hits to score two over the Roadrunners (15-27, 7-11) in the 2-1 victory.

Julian Nunez (Encinitas, Calif.) had the Waves' only RBI in the afternoon, with a perfect day on defense.Â

Nick Upstill (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Redshirt sophomore RHP
Jackson Pace (Hollister, Calif.) in his fifth start of the season pitched 3.0 innings with four strikeouts, allowing no hits.

The Easter Monday midweek started with no runs through three innings for either squad, with four left on for the Waves. Bakersfield struck first in the top of the fourth inning with one run on three hits. Pepperdine was working with a deficit after four innings, down 0-1.

No run on either side in the fifth gave the Waves the opportunity in the bottom of the sixth. Three hits, all singles by Nunez, senior infielder
Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Upstill put the home team in position to take the lead, scoring two for a 2-1 ball game at the end of the sixth inning.

Collin Valentine (Dallas, Texas) came in for the seventh, pitching 2.0 innings with three strikeouts allowing no hits and no runs.

Adam Troy (Houston, Texas) closed the ninth, finishing the game with a pick-off to first base. The 2-1 victory broke a five-game losing streak as Pepperdine will face CSU, Bakersfield again in Bakersfield tomorrow night.
