Box Score MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team did not capitalize with runners in scoring position, dropping the Friday afternoon contest 4-1.
 
The Waves (9-29, 5-9) outhit the Gaels (18-19, 4-7) 10-3, but four defensive errors aided the visitors in the 4-1 loss.

Redshirt sophomore 
Max Bernal (Clovis, Bernal) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, knocking in four singles.
 
Freshman infielder 
Zach Woodson (Long Beach, Calif.) hit .500 on the afternoon with one of the Waves' two RBIs.
 
RECAP 
 
Neither team could break through in the first two innings and headed into the third, the game remained scoreless. A walk and a single gave the Gaels a 1-0 lead at the end of three.
 
With no response from Pepperdine in the fourth, Saint Mary's added to the Waves deficit in the fifth with three runs on two hits and two defensive errors to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
 
The Waves got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning and three singles would score one with Woodson getting one of two RBIs on the afternoon. After six, Pepperdine was looking to come back with three innings left, trailing 4-1.
 
No runs would be added in the following two innings and despite an RBI from senior infielder 
Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) in the ninth, Pepperdine lost the second game of the series 4-2.
