MALIBU, Calif. – In a match against No. 4 UC Irvine, the Pepperdine men's volleyball team was plagued by attacking errors, allowing the Anteaters to take the match in three sets, posting 25-17, 25-21, and 25- 19 set scores.
As a team, Pepperdine recorded its lowest hitting percentage of the season with a .115, posting 33 kills and having 22 errors. The middle blockers were the most efficient, with
Ethan Watson leading the team with seven kills on 11 attempts and
James Eadie adding five kills on 10 swings.
George Dyer and
Jacob Reilly led the defense, adding five digs with 15 and 12 serve receptions, respectively.
Gabe Dyer and
Ryan Graves split playmaking duties tonight, with each tabbing 11 assists.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
During the first set, nine attacking errors would keep the Waves trailing the Anteaters throughout.
Cole Hartke led the attack, tabbing three kills and assisting on a block with
Ryan Barnett. Pepperdine was only able to secure 10 kills on 35 attempts compared to UCI's 14 kills on 26 swings. The Anteaters also served two aces and three rejections at the net, allowing the opposition to take set one, 25-17.
Throughout set two, Pepperdine posted 16 kills, five of which came from
Matt Mazur off the bench. The Waves kept the Anteaters to only nine kills, but UCI delivered four blocks to stop any attempt of Pepperdine taking the set. Seven attacking and five service errors from the Waves allowed UCI to dominate the set and ultimately win, 25-21.
In the third set, there would be eight tied scores and four lead changes, making for a competitive match. The Waves were only able to post seven kills, while the Anteaters put up 13, also delivering four rejections at the net. Watson accounted for two kills, while
James Eadie and
George Dyer connected for a block. Illay Haver and
Brendan Read served an ace each, but ultimately, the Waves' six attacking and four service errors allowed the Anteaters to take set three, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.

The Waves will travel to No. 10 Stanford next weekend for a pair of matches on March 14 and 15.
