SPOKANE, Wash. — Capping off the 2025 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Pepperdine women's indoor track team set two more school records in Spokane, Wash. on Saturday.
Sophomore distance runner Hannah Bruner began the meet by breaking the school's indoor mile record with her personal best time of 5:07.22, then the 4x400-meter relay team of Lexi Thomas, Isabella Reyes, Maddy Ortman and Brittany Rivas lowered their own school record with a time of 3:55.25.
All told, the Waves recorded 13 new top-10 times and set five new school records during the MPSF Championships. In what has arguably been head coach Lauren Floris' most successful indoor track season, Pepperdine has set seven new school records — including every mid-distance and distance event. As a team, the Waves placed 12th out of 13 teams, which is the first time Pepperdine finished above another team at the conference meet.
The Waves milers set the tone for a fast final day of the conference meet. Running in the second of three heats, Bruner stayed with the middle of the pack before gradually moving up in the second half of the race. She moved up to seventh in the penultimate lap before uncorking a 35.75-second bell lap, which ended up being the second-fastest closing lap in her heat. Nearly picking off another runner in the home stretch, Bruner crossed the line in 5:07.22, which was a three-second improvement over Olivia Miller's previous record of 5:10.33.
Minutes before Bruner broke the school record, junior Ashley Eagan ran a personal-best time of 5:16.74, which moved her up to fifth all-time at Pepperdine. Should the entire crew return for next year, Pepperdine could have its fastest group of milers ever: Bruner, Eagan and junior Caroline Graham have remaining eligibility and rank first, fourth and fifth all-time, respectively.
Before setting the school record in the 4x400-meter relay, Rivas and teammate Jenna Parsio ran two more top-10 times in the 400-meter dash. The true freshman Rivas ran the second-fastest time in program history and became the fourth Wave to go sub-60 seconds in the indoor 400 meters with her time of 58.62. Parsio, meanwhile, ran a new personal-best time of 1:01.17, moving her up to seventh in program history.
In the grand finale, Pepperdine's record-setting relay team of Thomas, Reyes, Ortman and Rivas became the second Waves relay team in history to break the four-minute barrier twice. Running in the first of two heats, Thomas positioned the Waves in third ahead of San Francisco with her opening leg of 59.55 seconds before Reyes clocked a 58.49-second split time at the midway point. Ortman maintained Pepperdine's position with her 59.40-second split before Rivas brought them home by finishing her leg in 57.78 seconds. Their time of 3:55.25 was a slight improvement over their 3:56.01 time from the Wolf Pack Classic two weeks ago.
Conference newcomer Oregon State won the women's title with 128.5 points, beating out runner-up Washington State (102.5) and Long Beach State (100). Competing without athletes in the field events, Pepperdine finished with three points, which was ahead of Saint Mary's.
The women's track team will make their outdoor debut next Saturday, March 1 at the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Relays.
