Waves Set for MPSF Championships

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive team will compete at the MPSF Championships in St. George, Utah this week.

Meet #16 — MPSF Championships | Wednesday, Feb. 19- Saturday, Feb. 22 | Human Performance Center | St. George, Utah | Tournament Central

The championships will be hosted by Utah Tech at the Human Performance Center. Wednesday's swimming competition will begin at 5 p.m. PT and will feature relay events in a finals only format. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will see a preliminary swimming round take place at 9 a.m. PT before finals begin at 5 p.m. PT in the evening.

The diving championships will take place at 11:30 a.m. PT Thursday and Friday in between the swimming prelims and finals.

Schools participating in the Championships include Pepperdine, Incarnate Word, Pacific and San Diego.

AWARDS — The Waves have tallied five conference weekly awards this season. Most recently, Lexie Martin earned the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Athlete of the Week award after two impressive performances on the diving board in the 184-116 win over Azusa Pacific on January 25. Martin posted a total of 264.23 points to win her last 3-meter competition at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool, which was also the second best score by a Wave this season. Additionally, she earned a second place finish in the 1-meter with a score of 225.00.

AJ Adams earned the MPSF Athlete of the Week award after winning two events and helping the Waves defeat New Mexico for the first time in program history in a double dual meet in San Diego on January 17.

Madeline Wheeler earned MPSF Athlete of the Week honors on November 18 after becoming the sixth fastest Wave in program history to complete the 1650 free. She finished her swim in 17:39.57, which was also a season-best time for the Waves. Wheeler also clocked a 5:18.83 in the 500 free, good for the seventh fastest time by a Wave during the 2024-25 campaign.

Alexandra Browne garnered the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 29. Prior to the honor, Browne won all four of her events in Pepperdine's dual meet against Westmont at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. She helped the Waves 400 medley and 200 free relay teams take first, while also winning both of her individual races.

Vivian Vallely earned the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 8. Highlighted by her second place finish with a score of 283.50 in the 3-meter competition on Friday, Vallely qualified for NCAA Zones in the event for the second year in a row. She then earned another second place finish as she totaled 254.95 points in the 1-meter competition on Saturday.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL — The Pepperdine Swim and Dive program recorded a total of nine first place finishes en route to a 184-116 victory over Azusa Pacific at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on January 25.

Pepperdine earned the top spot in six out of the 12 individual events, while two Wave seniors won individual events during their last home meet.

Senior Alexandra Browne won the 50 free for the seventh time this year after finishing her swim in 23.65. She also won the 100 free after notching a time of 52.54. Senior Jessica Calderoni (Los Altos, Calif.) took first in the 200 fly after finishing the event in 2:11.42. In the 200 IM, AJ Adams (Castle Rock, Colo.) finished the fastest, posting a time of 2:10.98. Ansley Halbach (Watkinsville, Ga.) won the 1000 free after finishing with a time of 10:40.47. In the 200 breast, Charli Sunahara took first with a time of 2:24.58.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN — The Waves return all three of their All-MPSF second team honorees from last year: Alexandra Browne (50 free), Kylie Taylor (100 back) and Amanda Wong (Platform). Pepperdine also boasts three swimmers who currently hold individual records - Browne (50 free, 100 IM), Taylor (100 back) and Lexi Haymart (500 free). Additionally, the team brings back everyone from last year's record-setting 200 free and 800 free relay teams in Browne, Layla Busquets, Anna Ryan, Taylor, AJ Adams, Lexi Fok, Ansley Halbach and Lindsay Hemming. The complete breakdown of the roster is seven seniors, fourteen juniors, nine sophomores and five freshman, which includes 28 returners and seven newcomers.Â
