Pepperdine Sweeps #12 Lewis

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine swept #12 Lewis in a comeback match to improve the Waves' record to 4-2. 
The Waves kept the Flyers to a .246 success rate, posting 25-21, 25-12, and 26-24 set scores. Pepperdine's offense was spread, with Jose Gomez and Cole Hartke having double-figure kills. Ryan Barnett and Ethan Watson were among the most efficient Waves, tabbing .615 and.778 hitting percentages with nine and seven kills, respectively. As a team, Pepperdine posted eight service aces, with four coming from Jose Gomez, and three from Hartke. Gabe Dyer led the playmaking for the afternoon, assisting on 35 kills while adding one of his own, and four digs.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Freshman, Cole Hartke, got things started for Pepperdine during the first set, posting a team-high five kills on a .444 clip, while also adding an assist and an ace. Jose Gomez was also efficient on the attack, tabbing four kills on five attempts as well as an ace from the service line. Collectively, Pepperdine kept Lewis to a .273 hitting percentage, only allowing 11 kills on 22 attempts. The Waves' efficient hitting allowed them to take set one, 25-21. 
During the second set, Pepperdine only allowed six kills from the Flyers, tallying 13 of their own. Ethan Watson led the second set, with four kills on four attempts, also adding an assisted block with Matt Mazur. Ryan Barnett and Jose Gomez also added three kills each, with Gomez posting two service aces and Barnett adding one. The Waves had a .667 success rate, along with five service aces to allow them to gain a comfortable lead against the Flyers, and take set two, 25-12. 
Throughout set three, there were 15 ties and six lead changes, forcing the set to extend into extra points. Hartke and Barnett combined for eight out of Pepperdine's 15 kills, allowing the Waves to take the match over the LFlyers. James Eadie had two major blocks towards the end of the set that allowed Pepperdine to take set point away from Lewis, and win the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.
