Pepperdine Heads to Fresno State This Weekend

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive program continues on the road as they head to Fresno State to face off with the Bulldogs in two meets in two days.

Meet #12 — Pepperdine (2-4) at Fresno State (2-1) | Sprint Meet | Friday, Jan. 10 | 2 p.m. | Fresno State Aquatics Center | Fresno, Calif.

Meet #13 — Pepperdine at Fresno State | Dual Meet | Saturday, Jan. 11 | 12 p.m. | Fresno State Aquatics Center | Fresno, Calif.

Friday is set for a sprint meet, while Saturday will be a dual meet between the squads, and the two meets will be scored separately. Along with swimming, there will also be 1-meter and 3-meter diving during the two days of competition.

FRESNO STATE — Fresno State is 2-1 in dual meets on the year. The Bulldogs have defeated CSU Bakersfield and Fresno Pacific, while losing to Nevada.

AWARDS — The Waves have tallied four conference weekly awards this season. Most recently, AJ Adams earned the MPSF Athlete of the Week award after winning two events and helping the Waves defeat New Mexico for the first time in program history in a double dual meet in San Diego last weekend.

Madeline Wheeler earned MPSF Athlete of the Week honors on November 18 after becoming the sixth fastest Wave in program history to complete the 1650 free. She finished her swim in 17:39.57, which was also a season-best time for the Waves. Wheeler also clocked a 5:18.83 in the 500 free, good for the seventh fastest time by a Wave during the 2024-25 campaign.

Alexandra Browne garnered the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 29. Prior to the honor, Browne won all four of her events in Pepperdine's dual meet against Westmont at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. She helped the Waves 400 medley and 200 free relay teams take first, while also winning both of her individual races.

Vivian Vallely earned the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 8. Highlighted by her second place finish with a score of 283.50 in the 3-meter competition on Friday, Vallely qualified for NCAA Zones in the event for the second year in a row. She then earned another second place finish as she totaled 254.95 points in the 1-meter competition on Saturday.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL — Pepperdine defeated New Mexico for the first time in program history in a double dual meet in San Diego last Thursday (155-144). The Waves were highlighted by AJ Adams and Ansley Halbach who both took home wins last week. Adams took first in the 200 back (2:08.42) and the 200 IM (2:10.62), while Halbach won the 500 free (5:16.96). Overall, the Waves earned 10 podium spots in the individual portion of the swim meet as they took home three first place finishes, three second place finishes and four third place finishes on the day.

Vivian Vallely continued her stellar season and finished the best in the 3-meter and the 1-meter competitions as she earned respective finishes of 4th (251.05) and 7th (223.15).

ROSTER BREAKDOWN — The Waves return all three of their All-MPSF second team honorees from last year: Alexandra Browne (50 free), Kylie Taylor (100 back) and Amanda Wong (Platform). Pepperdine also boasts three swimmers who currently hold individual records - Browne (50 free, 100 IM), Taylor (100 back) and Lexi Haymart (500 free). Additionally, the team brings back everyone from last year's record-setting 200 free and 800 free relay teams in Browne, Layla Busquets, Anna Ryan, Taylor, AJ Adams, Lexi Fok, Ansley Halbach and Lindsay Hemming. The complete breakdown of the roster is seven seniors, fourteen juniors, nine sophomores and five freshman, which includes 28 returners and seven newcomers.Â
