The #20 Pepperdine women's soccer team left Harvard with a point after a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon.
The Waves (4-2-2) came out strong against the Crimson (3-0-2), getting the first shot on goal in the first four minutes of the match. Harvard matched the intensity, attacking Pepperdine's defense all game. With six shots on goal a piece, both teams were steadily testing the opponent.Â
For just the second time all season, the Waves were not first to the scoreboard. A foul by graduate Megan Edelman (Danville, Calif.) would give Harvard a penalty kick in the 77th minute. After converting, the Waves had 13 short minutes to find an answer.Â
As Pepperdine was on the attack and forcing multiple corners in the final minutes, Edelman stepped up to redeem her foul from earlier in the match. Screeching a ball from outside the box, it nearly burned a hole through the net as it sailed by the near side post to tie things up.Â
Edelman's goal is the first Harvard has allowed all season. This marks the third game in a row the Waves have been the first to score on the opposing team in the 2024 season.Â
Neither team could find a goal in the final nine minutes of the match and for the second year in a row, Pepperdine tied Harvard 1-1.Â
