MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine men's golf team will head back to Conway Farms Golf Club, the site of its 1997 NCAA Championship win, trekking to Lake Forest, Illinois to compete in the Northwestern-hosted Windon Memorial Classic this weekend.

EVENT INFO — The tournament will be held at the par-71, 7,432-yard Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. There will be 54 holes of golf with 36 holes and a shotgun start on Sunday and then 18 holes on Monday to crown a champion. The Waves will be paired with Northwestern, Illinois and Arizona for the first two rounds.

FIELD — Along with #25 Pepperdine and Northwestern, the field includes #5 Illinois, #13 Arizona, Kansas (RV), Notre Dame (RV), Michigan State (RV), Purdue (RV), USF (RV), Augusta, Houston, East Tennessee State, Indiana, Marquette, and UC Davis.

EVENT HISTORY — Northwestern has hosted the event since the tournament's inaugural year in 1993 and this will be Pepperdine's third time competing in the Windon Memorial Classic, having finished ninth in 2011 and 15th in 1999 in the tournament. Pepperdine alumnus Johnny Mac Arthur has the best finish to date, having tied for 12th in the latest campaign.

The Waves have a unique relationship with the golf course, however, having won the 1997 NCAA Championship title at Conway Farms with a three-shot margin. Pepperdine great Jason Gore set the Pepperdine program record for lowest 18-hole score at an NCAA Championship after posting a 6-under 65 in the first round. He finished tied for 3
rd after four rounds, having shot a 4-under 280 which also leads the program record lists. Michael Walton shot a 3-under 281 for fifth-place in the tournament and that feat ranks tied for second in the record books.

Joshua Koo (Cerritos, Calif./Cerritos HS/Washington) will also compete as an individual.

RANKINGS — The Waves maintained their spot in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I coaches poll this week at the #25 spot. Pepperdine opened the fall campaign ranked #21 in the Golf Channel preseason rankings.
Mahanth Chirravuri is also ranked #67 in the USGA World Amateur Golf Rankings this week.

LAST TIME OUT — Last weekend the Waves competed at The Tindall Invitational, hosted by Washington, and finished second in the 14-team lineup. The squad posted a three-round score of 833 (275-278-280) at the par-71, 7,016-yard Aldarra Golf Club. Freshman
Luke Bailey finished tied for sixth after totaling a 7-under 206 for his first top-10 career finish, recording eight birdies and two eagles, including his first career hole-in-one in the first round.
Mahanth Chirravuri and
Brady Siravo rounded out the weekend after tying for 11th and 14th respectively.
