Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | by Pepperdine Athletics

Waves Shock #3 Bruins in 1-0 Victory

The Pepperdine women's soccer team handed #3 UCLA their first loss of the season, winning 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.

For the first time in three years, the Waves (3-2-1) beat a top-five opponent in the #3 Bruins (5-1).

The difference maker came from graduate transfer Megan Edelman (Danville, Calif.) who is a former Bruin herself. A cross from the right side of the field found the head of sophomore Peyton Leonard (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) to score on the near side of the goal. This is Leonard's first goal of the season and only second of her collegiate career.

Pepperdine has not beat a top-five opponent as an unranked team since 2019 when eventual national champions #2 Stanford fell in Malibu 1-0.

This win also gave Pepperdine head coach Tim Ward the 300th win of his career. Every win has come in Malibu as Ward has been with the program for 31 of the 32 seasons. Currently, Ward is in the middle of his 27th season at the helm.

GOALS

70' : A header from sophomore Leonard found the back of the net on the near side of the goal from a cross off Edelman's foot. This is the first goal to be scored on the Bruins all season.
