MALIBU, Calif. — Former Pepperdine volunteer assistant Martin Redlicki has rejoined the Pepperdine men's tennis team as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 season, Adam Schaechterle and the program announced Thursday.
A two-time NCAA doubles champion at UCLA and a former volunteer assistant coach for the Waves during the 2020-22 seasons, Redlicki returns to Pepperdine after serving as the assistant coach for the Oklahoma State men's tennis team from 2022-24.
In Redlicki's time in Stillwater, Okla., the Cowboys jumped from 57th in the ITA rankings to as high as 29th, made the NCAA Tournament twice and boasted two All-Americans in Tyler Zink and Isaac Bercroft. This past season, the Cowboys were a consistent top-35 team with Redlicki, who helped the squad go 18-10 and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Redlicki first came to Pepperdine as a volunteer assistant coach from 2020-2022, where he helped the Waves make the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance under Schaechterle. Although Redlicki's first season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, his second season saw the Waves go 16-7, win the West Coast Conference title and reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Before coaching, Redlicki was a standout player for UCLA, winning two NCAA doubles titles in 2016 and 2018. As a senior, Redlicki was named the 2018 ITA National Player of the Year, was the ITA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and made the 2018 ITA Collegiate All-Star team for the second time (the first time was in 2016). During his collegiate career, Redlicki was the #1 singles player (2018) and was part of the nation's #1 doubles team (2016).
All told, Redlicki had a combined 207-60 record in singles and doubles in college. As a professional, Redlicki won doubles titles at both the Lexington and Columbus Challenger tournaments as well as singles and doubles titles at the Tucson Futures tournament. He also played in the main draws of the 2016 and 2018 US Open championships. His career-high singles ranking was #381 and his career-high doubles ranking was #187.
Redlicki was a standout in the classroom as well. He was an ITA All-Academic award winner and earned his bachelor's degrees in communications and political science from UCLA in 2018. As a senior, he was named the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Pepperdine will aim for its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024-25 after earning an at-large bid and winning a share of the West Coast Conference regular-season title last year.
