
Six Waves Garner CSC Academic All-District At-Large Honors

MALIBU, Calif. – Six Waves from four separate teams garnered College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors today, including Kaleiya Romero from women's golf, Joshua Koo from men's golf, Kate Clermont, McKenna Thomas and Sarlota Svobodova from beach volleyball and Martin de Chavarria from men's volleyball.

To earn Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average, have at least a sophomore standing both academically and athletically and be a starter or important reserve on their team.

Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program.

Women's Golf:
Romero (San Jose, Calif.) amassed a 3.593 grade point average while studying psychology. This is her second year in a row receiving academic all-district honors. For her efforts in the classroom, she has earned WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll silver honors and WGCA All-American Scholar three times. Romero is a four-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar as a sophomore. She's also a four-time All-WCC first team selection.

Men's Golf:
Koo (Cerritos, Calif.) marked a 3.748 grade point average while studying pre-business administration. He was also a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete this year.

Beach Volleyball:
Clermont (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) earned a 3.814 grade point average while studying liberal arts for education. This is her second season in a row receiving academic all-district honors. She previously received WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll silver honors in 2022 and 2023. Clermont is also a four-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete. She was named AVCA Top Flight last season and has earned All-WCC first team honors each of the last two years.

Thomas (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) is studying psychology and has earned a 3.854 grade point average. This is her second time receiving academic all-district honors. She earned WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll gold honors the last two seasons and is a three-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete. Thomas has also been named to the WCC All-Academic first team and tabbed All-WCC first team honors each of the last two seasons. She earned AVCA Top Flight and WCC Co-Freshman of the Year in 2022.

Svobodova (Brno, Czech Republic) marked a 3.854 GPA while pursuing a Master of Science in business analytics as a graduate student this year. She was a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and earned All-WCC second team honors this year. While at Coastal Carolina, Svobodova was a two-time ASUN All-Academic honoree.

Chavarria (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) has earned a 3.85 grade point average while studying real estate as a graduate student this year. He was named to the MPSF All-Academic team and earned MPSF Defensive Player of the Week once this year. While at NJIT, Chavarria earned EIVA All-Academic honors three times.
