MALIBU, Calif.  - The Pepperdine beach volleyball program went 2-0 on the first day of the WCC Tournament to propel itself into the winners bracket and a match against #9 LMU tomorrow morning for the right to play in the WCC Championship.
 
The Waves (21-14) swept Pacific (0-29) in the first dual before gutting out a 3-2 victory against Saint Mary's (18-15) in their second match of the day.

MATCH RECAPS
In the first dual, Pepperdine came out swinging to open its WCC Tournament run and jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of two-set victories as Aubrey Roberts (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Emi Erickson (Honolulu, Hawai'i) took court five 21-6, 21-6 and Kristine Briede (Balozi, Latvia) and Madison Oriskovich (Santa Barbara, Calif.) took court two 21-6, 21-9.
 
In slot No. 3, Gabriella Perez (Loomis, Calif.) and Sarlota Svobodova (Brno, Czech Republic) would be the pair to clinch the dual for the Waves as they earned a two-set victory, 21-7, 21-12.
 
Gracie Pedersen (Franklin, Tenn.) and Kaydon Meyers (Scottsdale, Ariz.) won court four 21-8, 21-12 to increase Pepperdine's advantage to 4-0.
 
In slot No. 1, Kate Clermont (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) and McKenna Thomas (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) would complete the sweep for the Waves as they won in straight sets 25-23, 21-13.
 
In the second dual, the Waves continued their momentum from their opening round and jumped out to another fast 2-0 advantage with a couple of two-set victories as Roberts and Erickson won court five 21-18, 21-13 and Perez and Svobodova won in slot No. 3 21-15, 21-15.
 
On court one, Clermont and Thomas continued their stellar season and clinched the dual for Pepperdine as they also won in straight sets. The pair gutted out a 28-26 first set victory before taking the second set 21-13.
 
Pedersen and Meyers took their first set on court four 21-10, but the Gaels duo would battle back and win the court as they took the last two sets 21-11, 17-15. Saint Mary's would also take court two in three sets, but Pepperdine would win the dual 3-2 and put themselves into the winners bracket tomorrow morning.
 
NEXT UP
Pepperdine will face off against #9 LMU at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning for the right to play in the WCC Championship. A win would put the Waves in the championship at 1:30 p.m., but a loss would have Pepperdine playing in another semifinal dual at noon for the right to play in the championship.
