Pepperdine Closes Series Against Villanova

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team struggled against Villanova in the last game of the series at Eddy D. Field Stadium Sunday.

Villanova (5-8) jumped out front early and Pepperdine (3-13) was unable to respond. The Wildcats would secure a 5-0 lead by the end of the second inning. The Waves could not find an answer throughout the remainder of the game, being outscored 2-1 in the final seven innings, losing 7-1.

BIG WAVES

Graduate outfielder Nick Upstill (Huntington Beach, Calif.) produced an RBI off a single to right field.

Freshman Jack Carey (Centennial, Colo.) closed the game pitching 1.0 innings recording two strikeouts and allowing no hits.

RECAP

Villanova started the game scoring two in the top of the first kick-started by an RBI triple. The momentum would continue for the Wildcats as they would add three more runs in the top of the second thanks to a bases-clearing double by Jack O'Reilly.

Neither team would find their way around the bases for three innings as a total of three hits would be recorded.

The Wildcats tacked on another run in the top of the sixth as well as the top of the seventh before the Waves would find a response.

Pepperdine was able to get bats going in the bottom of the seventh starting with a single to left field by junior outfielder Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo.). After advancing to second on a groundout by junior infielder Jacob Rebrook (The Woodlands, Texas), Upstill was able to score Pemberton with a single to right field.

The final two innings would not add anymore runs to the scoreboard and Villanova would win the final game of the series 7-1.
