MALIBU, Calif. — Highlighted by
Lizzy Crawford and
Patrick Thomas earning spots on the West Coast Conference Cross Country All-Academic team, 14 Pepperdine cross country runners won all-academic awards, which were announced by the conference on Friday.
Brooke Bakken, Ashley Eagan, Caroline Graham, Jessica Guardino, Hannah Miller, Lacey Reedy, Hannah Renager, Kayla Renner and
Faith Talbott earned honorable mention honors for the women's team. The women's team's 10 total award winners are the most for the squad under head coach
Lauren Floris and the most by Pepperdine since 2015.
Gordy Nilsen,
Kaleb McElfish and
Dominic Silhol were honorable mention award winners for the men's team.
To be considered for all-academic awards, runners must compete in at least 50% of the team's races and have a 3.2 grade point average in the most recent completed term (in this case, spring 2024). True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.
Starring for the Waves in the classroom and on the course, Crawford maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average while pursuing her bachelor's degree in political science. The sophomore from Thornton, Colo. has been Pepperdine's top finisher for the last 10 races and counting — which is the third-longest streak in program history. This year she ran the fifth-fastest 5K in program history at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational (18:00.4), plus she was Pepperdine's first top-100 placer at the NCAA West Regional race since 2015. She is the first Wave to earn first-team all-academic honors since Tatum Rask did so in 2019.
Earning his second WCC all-academic award of his career, Thomas had a 3.627 grade point average while earning his master's degree in biology. The junior from Paso Robles, Calif. led Pepperdine at the WCC Championships by placing 30th, plus he was Pepperdine's second finisher at the NCAA West Regional. Thomas was a scoring runner in all six races this season. He is the first Pepperdine men's cross country runner to garner first-team honors since Johnathan Flint did so in 2022.
A full 2025 spring track schedule is forthcoming.
