
Pepperdine Heads East for Georgia Collegiate Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine men's golf team will head to Alpharetta, Ga. to compete in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational this weekend.

The Waves won this tournament three years ago with a three-round score of 822. Joe Highsmith posted a 197 during the 2021 tournament to secure the individual championship.

EVENT INFO — The tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,092-yard Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga. There will be 54 holes of golf with 18 holes played each day. The Waves will be paired with UCLA and USC on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday's pairings will be determined after the first two days of competition.

EVENT HISTORY — Georgia Tech has hosted the event since the tournament's inaugural year in 2006. This will be Pepperdine's fifth time competing in the Georgia Collegiate Invitational, having finished in the top-two three times, including the 2021 season where the Waves won the tournament.

Pepperdine's three-round score of 822 is the lowest tournament score at the Golf Club of Georgia. The Waves have had six individuals finish in the top-10 including Highsmith and William Mouw in 2021, Mouw, Hitchner and Choi in 2022 and Mahanth Chirravuri in 2023.

PEPPERDINE LINEUP — Pepperdine's lineup consists of junior Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton HS/USC), sophomore William Walsh (San Mateo, Calif./Juniper Serra HS), junior Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit HS), freshman Byungho Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Spring Creek Academy) and freshman Luke Bailey (Encinitas, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS).

RANKINGS — Pepperdine sits 18th in the first NCAA rankings of the year. The Waves are also tied for #23 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I coaches poll this week. Pepperdine opened the fall campaign ranked #21 in the Golf Channel preseason rankings. Mahanth Chirravuri is also ranked #64 in the USGA World Amateur Golf Rankings this week.

LAST TIME OUT — The Waves last competed at Windon Memorial Classic at the end of September where the squad posted a three-round score of 862 (287-295-280) at the par-71, 7,432-yard Conway Farms Golf Club, good for seventh out of the 16 teams. The Waves were led by Chirravuri who notched his fifth-career top-10 finish as a Wave. Chirravuri had two under-par rounds, including a 4-under 67 in the opening round. Walsh and Siravo also had impressive final rounds as they posted scores of 69 and 70, respectively.
