Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | by Pepperdine Athletics

Four Waves Score in 5-0 Victory

The #15 Pepperdine women's soccer team continued to tear through the West Coast Conference, beating Pacific at home 4-0, maintaining a perfect 16-0 all-time record against the Tigers.

The Waves (9-2-3, 3-0-1) started the scoring early after a handball in the second minute by Pacific (2-11-1, 0-4). For her first goal this season and third of her collegiate career, redshirt sophomore Kendall Campbell (Palmdale, Calif.) drilled the ball for an early Pepperdine lead.

Just four minutes later, redshirt junior Tabitha LaParl (Lakewood, Calif.) notched her fourth of the season. An assist by sophomore Peyton Leonard (Ladera Ranch. Calif.) met LaParl sprinting into the box and the top left-hand side. Shooting it just outside the goalie's reach, the ball found the back of the net with no protest from the Pacific defense, making it 2-0 Waves.

For her first brace of the season, LaParl scored Pepperdine's third of the night on a free kick. Setting up right outside the box, the Lakewood native needed no assistance to bend the ball into the right-hand side of the net. As the team's second-leading goal scorer, LaParl has five goals and one assist on the year.

Right before half, freshman Ariana Salvador (Newhall, Calif.) netted Pepperdine's second unassisted goal of the half. For the second consecutive game, Salvador found the back of the net, this time on an olimpico from the right corner of the field.
The second half did not see the same scoring as the first and the latter 45 minutes were turning out to be seemingly uneventful. Before the game was up, redshirt sophomore Kyra Murphy (Riverside, Calif.) found her third goal of the season with a shot to the far side of the net from the right hand side of the field, gliding past the reach of the Pacific goalie.

With only eight minutes left to play, the Tigers would fail to get on the board as Pepperdine won 5-0, the fifth shutout of the season.

"So proud of the Waves tonight!" Head coach Tim Ward said. "From the first to the last minute, our girls were at it! Working hard and smart for one another! Really proud of that performance and hopefully we can continue to build momentum in the games and weeks ahead!!!"

GOALS
2' | After a handball in the box, Campbell managed to drive the PK in the goal for the lead.

6' |  For her first goal of the game, LaParl was given a ball from the left-hand side of the field by Leonard. Running into the box, LaParl rocketed the ball from the top of the 18-yard box for the second goal of the match.

29' | LaParl's second goal of the match came from a free kick right outside the box. Unassisted, the redshirt junior bent the ball around both the defensive wall and goalie to make it 3-0 Waves.

42' | For the second match in a row, Salvador found the back of the net. The Waves' second olimpico of the season came off the foot of the freshman as she scored unassisted on a corner from the right side of the field.

83' | The exclamation point of the night came off the foot of Murphy. A shot to the far side of the net would be Pepperdine's sole second half goal. This is the second match this season the Waves have scored five goals with the first coming against Fresno State at home Sept. 20.
