Waves Head to Fort Worth for Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine men's golf team will head to Fort Worth, Texas for the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational next week.

EVENT INFO — The tournament will be held at the par-71 Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.  There will be 36-holes played on Monday and the final 18-holes on Tuesday (Oct. 2-3).  Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.

WAVES X BEN HOGAL COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL — This year marks the third that the Waves will be competing in the tournament hosted by TCU.  Pepperdine has finished in the top-five in both previous tournaments, including tying for third out of 16 teams last season and finishing fifth out of 15 team in 2021.  Last season, William Mouw also finished second to lead the Waves.  In 2021, Joe Highsmith was the highest-placing Wave, tying for ninth.  In that year, the tournament was named the Colonial Collegiate Invitational.

FIELD — Along with Pepperdine, the field includes #1 North Carolina, #4 Georgia Tech, #7 Vanderbilt, #8 Arizona State, #9 Texas, #13 Texas Tech, #18 Texas A&M, #24 Oklahoma, #27 Oklahoma State, #29 Wake Forest, #30 Florida State, #34 TCU, #35 Oregon and #44 Georgia.

The tournament features five programs that reached the NCAA Championship match play last season, including the runner-up Georgia Tech.  It also features five programs that have won NCAA Championship titles in the past seven years.

PEPPERDINE LINEUP — Pepperdine's lineup consists of sophomores Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton HS/USC), Joshua Koo (Cerritos, Calif./Cerritos HS/Washington) and Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit HS), and freshmen William Walsh (San Mateo, Calif./Juniper Serra HS) and Curtis Da Silva (Monterey, Calif. (Robert Louis Stevenson School).

RANKINGS — In the rankings this week, Pepperdine is ranked #15 in the Bushnell/Golfweek coaches poll and #52 in the Golfweek team rankings.

LAST WEEK AT FIGHTING ILLINI — Last week in Illinois, the Waves finished tied for 11th at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational.  Due to poor weather conditions, the third round was canceled.  After 36-holes the previous two rounds, Pepperdine was at the 573 (286-287) mark.  Sophomore Mahanth Chirravuri led the Waves with a score of 136 (68-68) after two bogey-free rounds to finish tied for fifth.

THEEGALA WINS ON PGA TOUR — Pepperdine alumnus Sahith Theegala captured his first career PGA Tour win at the Fortinet Championship in Napa, Calif. earlier this month.  He finished with a 21-under 267 (68-64-67-68), which tied the tournament record set two years prior.

He became the third Wave to ever win a PGA Tour event in program history, and the first since Andrew Putnam won the Barracuda Championship in 2018.  The first-ever Wave to win was Jason Gore at the 84 Lumber Classic in 2005.
