MALIBU, Calif. — Seventeen home contests, a full 16-game West Coast Conference slate and non-conference games against five postseason teams highlight the 2023-24 Pepperdine women's basketball team's full schedule, which was announced Friday.
All home games will occur at Firestone Fieldhouse and will be streamed on ESPN+. Ticket information will be available in the coming days on tickets.pepperdinewaves.com, plus all pertinent road game information can be found on the women's basketball team's schedule page on pepperdinewaves.com.
A home exhibition against non-Division I Biola on Nov. 3 kicks off a home-heavy non-conference slate for the Waves. Of the team's 14 non-conference games, nine will be played in Firestone Fieldhouse.
Pepperdine's first countable game is a home contest against UC Irvine on Nov. 7. The Anteaters are one of five non-conference opponents on Pepperdine's schedule who made the postseason last year; they won the Big West's regular-season title with a 25-7 record and made the second round of the WNIT. Two days later, the Waves square off against New Mexico — another 20-plus win team from last year that made the second round of the WNIT.
From there, the Waves will take a Mountain West Conference road tour of sorts, starting with a game at Fresno State on Wednesday, Nov. 15. The Waves will travel north to Reno, Nevada to face the Wolf Pack on Friday, Nov. 17 before capping off the trip in the Gem State with a Monday night matchup against Boise State on Nov. 20.
Kicking off a two-game homestand, the Waves will host Georgetown out of the Big East Conference on Friday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. Three days later, Pepperdine will host Long Beach State — another WNIT qualifier that won at least 20 games last season — on Monday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.
A trip to North Texas (12/1) caps off the Waves' out-of-state trips during the non-conference slate. Upon their return to Malibu, Pepperdine will host California Baptist University, which made the WBI last season, on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. Pepperdine's final road non-conference game is an in-state trip to Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, Dec. 16.
Pepperdine wraps up its non-conference slate with two home games in 11 days, starting by hosting the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks on Dec. 18. The Lumberjacks were in a three-way tie for the Big Sky Conference title last season, yet clinched the conference's NIT berth after falling in the Big Sky title game. The last non-conference game of the season is at home against Division II Cal State LA on Dec. 29.
Once the calendar turns to 2024, the Waves will embark on a double round-robin, 16-game WCC schedule. Pepperdine's WCC opener is a quick drive south to San Diego to face the Toreros on Jan. 4, then the Waves head north to host PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount on Jan. 6.
January will be a road-heavy month for the Waves. The team takes its first of three trips to the San Francisco Bay Area to play at San Francisco on Jan. 11. After a week-long respite, the Waves head back to the Bay Area to face Santa Clara (1/18) and go inland to play Pacific (1/20). From there, a lone home matchup against the reigning WCC Tournament champion Portland Pilots awaits on Thursday, Jan. 25 before the Waves take a cross-town trip to LMU on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Unlike January, February has an advantageous, home-heavy slate for the Waves, as six of the team's final nine WCC games will occur in Firestone Fieldhouse.
Home games against San Francisco and Santa Clara take place on Feb. 1 and Feb. 3, respectively before Pepperdine takes its penultimate road swing of the season the following week. A Pacific Northwest trip to Gonzaga (Feb. 8) and Portland (Feb. 10) awaits the Waves in mid-February, then Pepperdine comes home to host San Diego the following Thursday on Feb. 15. Later that week, Pepperdine takes its final road trip to Saint Mary's on Feb. 17.
Then, Pepperdine closes the season with a three-game homestand, starting with home matchups against Portland (2/22) and Gonzaga (2/24) before the team gets a brief hiatus before Senior Day against Saint Mary's (3/2).
