After falling behind 2-0, the Waves (18-25) scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead over the Matadors (27-15) and held CSUN scoreless until the eighth inning when they tried to make a comeback. Pepperdine was able to shut it down in the bottom of the ninth to collect the win.

GAME RECAP

The Matadors took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after a solo home run and single to center. The Waves answered and took the lead in the top of the third inning, thanks to a Grant Schoen (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas HS) RBI single to right, a sac line out to center by John Peck, a Quintt Landis infield single and a throwing error by the Matadors to make it 4-2.

Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) led off the top of the seventh inning with a single to left field. Jack Basseer followed with a single of his own back up the middle. The Waves then took advantage of a Matador throwing error to score a run and make it 5-2. Another throwing error by CSUN brought in another run for Pepperdine. With one out, Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) smacked a RBI single through the right side to get the score at 7-2. After a pitching change for the Matadors, Peck sent one over the right field wall to clear the bases and give the Waves a 10-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, CSUN got back within three, 10-7, after scoring five runs on four hits. Pepperdine tried to get additional insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning after a bases loaded situation, but were retired after a Matador pitching change. In the bottom of the final frame, Pepperdine sat down CSUN in order on a strikeout, a ground ball to third and a fly ball to left to secure the victory.
