Pepperdine Drops in Game One to LMU

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team dropped 8-3 to Loyola Marymount in game one of the West Coast Conference three-game series on Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
 
The Waves (18-26, 7-15) fell behind early to the Lions (24-21, 16-6) 3-0 after the first inning, and tried to climb back, but the LMU pitcher was tough to get around as he shut down the squad in six of his eight innings pitched.  
 
BIG WAVES
  • Junior outfielder Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity Pawling HS) was 2-for-3 on the day including one RBI. Bradshaw hit his first triple of the season.
  • Freshman infielder Jack Basseer (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) was 2-for-4 on the day.
  • Junior outfielder Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) was also 2-for-4 on the day and scored one run for the Waves.
  • Senior Grant Schoen (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas HS) also had two hits and crossed the plate once for the day. 
GAME RECAP
 
The Lions took the lead in the top of the first after scoring three runs on three hits, 3-0. In the top of the second inning LMU added another run on a single to right. In the bottom of the second inning, the Waves got a run back on a Connor Bradshaw sac fly to center, 4-1.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, LMU brought in a run on a single through the right side, 5-1. John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) got Pepperdine within two after a double to center, 5-3. The Lions added a run on a single to right in the top of the seventh inning, 6-3. In the top of the eighth inning, LMU brought in two runs on two hits to get some insurance and make it 8-3. In the final frame, the Waves were in a bases loaded situation, but were unable to bring them around and were retired. 
 
UP NEXT
 
The Waves and Lions will face off in game two of the series on Saturday, May 13. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the WCC Network.
