MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's basketball program added more talent to the 2022-23 roster as head coach Lorenzo Romar announced the signing of Curtis Williams on Tuesday.
"We are very excited to have Curtis join us," Romar said. "He is someone that has great positional size for a wing at six-foot-six. He is very versatile in that he is a good passer, can shoot the ball and understands how to defend at his age."
"We feel he's a great fit for our culture on and off the court," Romar said.
The six-foot-six wing hails from the familiar territory of Etiwanda High School- the old stomping grounds of recent Waves Kameron and Kessler Edwards. At Etiwanda, Williams averaged 13 points, six rebounds and two assists per contest while accruing 1.2 steals and one block per game on the defensive end. In Baseline League play, EHS finished undefeated and Williams was named MVP for the 2022-23 season, while also earning a spot on the All-CIF first team and the All-State second team.
In addition to EHS, Williams competed for Team WhyNot, Compton Magic and Jalen Green Elite on the AAU circuit.
"What I like most about Pepperdine is that it's a Christian-based school where I can continue my education. I'm excited to be a part of the men's basketball program and play for Coach Romar," Williams said.
He will join a freshman class consisting of signees Nils Cooper (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School), Martin Gumwel (South Sudan/Rancho Christian HS) and John Squire (Sausalito, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep). Transfers Michael Ajayi (Kent, Wash./Pierce College) and Ethan Anderson (Los Angeles, Calif./Wyoming) round out the recruiting class, adding on to the nine returners from the 2022-23 season.
