MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team rolled past Saint Mary's 12-1 to earn its first West Coast Conference series win, defeating the Gaels in a rubber match on Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
Brandon Llewellyn and the Waves (10-19, 4-8) held the Gaels (11-16, 6-6) scoreless through the first six innings and only allowed Saint Mary's to one hit on the day, which came in the seventh inning. The only run for the Gaels was also in the seventh inning.
BIG WAVES
- Senior catcher Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) went 3-for-4 and had three RBI. Landis tied his career-high in hits and RBI.
- Senior infielder Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) was 2-for-3 on the day including his 12th home run of the season. Johnson had two RBI, two walks and scored two runs for the Waves. Johnson is now in sole possession of fourth on the Pepperdine career all-time list for home runs with 31.
- Junior infielder Lincoln Orellana (Apple Valley, Calif./Sheldon HS/Hawai'i/American River College) was 2-for-4 and tied his career-high in RBI with three. Orellana also secured a career-high in runs scored after touching the plate three times today for the Waves.
- Junior shortstop John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) was 2-for-5 on the day and crossed the plate twice.
- Junior RHP Brandon Llewellyn (Colleyville, Texas/IMG Academy) threw a season-high 6.2 innings only allowing one hit and one run which came in the top of the seventh inning. Llewellyn struck out four Saint Mary's hitters and had two walks. He also earned his first win of the season.

Grant Schoen (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas HS) led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk.
Ryan Johnson and
John Peck hit back-to-back singles to load the bases.
Lincoln Orellana then hit a single of his own through the right side to give the Waves a 1-0 lead.
Quintt Landis then smacked a two-run single through the right side to make it 3-0. With one out and runners on second and third,
Jack Basseer (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Cam Conley (Lincoln University, Pa./Malvern Prep) earned a walk on a 3-1 count, which brought in a run to make it 4-0. After the Gaels made a pitching change, Pepperdine had back-to-back walks which brought in two more runs to give the Waves a 6-0 lead. The Waves added one more after a Saint Mary's wild pitch, 7-0.
After two scoreless innings for both squads, Johnson roped a solo home run to increase the Pepperdine lead to 8-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Peck doubled to right center with two outs. On a 1-1 count, Orellana sent one over the right field wall to give Pepperdine a 10-0 lead. In the top of the seventh inning, the Gaels scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-1 in favor of the Waves.
In the bottom of the eighth, Schoen led off with a single up the middle. Johnson then drew a walk on four straight pitches to give Pepperdine runners on first and second. After a fielder's choice ground ball and runners on the corners, the Waves scored on a wild pitch to make it, 11-1.
Quintt Landis then sent a single through the left side to score another run and give Pepperdine a 12-1 lead. In the top of the final frame, Pepperdine retired Saint Mary's on a strikeout, a ground ball to the pitcher and a fly out to center field to hold onto the win.
