MALIBU, Calif. – After a back-and-forth scoring game, the Pepperdine baseball team earned an 8-7 victory over #19 UCLA in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off by
Charles Masino in a midweek contest on Tuesday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
The Waves (11-19) and Bruins (19-9-1) each scored a run in five out of the nine innings played and were tied three times throughout.
Quintt Landis singled in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and a beauty of a blooper by Masino brought him around for the victory. Pepperdine and UCLA have each won a midweek contest on their home turf this season.

- Junior outfielder Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) was 3-for-5 on the day and brought in a career-high five RBI.
- Senior outfielder Grant Schoen (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas HS) was 2-for-4 including his first career home run, which was a two-run shot and crossed the plate three times.
- Senior infielder Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) was also 2-for-4 on the day and crossed the plate twice including scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
- Junior shortstop John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) had one hit on the day and one RBI. He also scored two runs and had a stolen base.
- Sophomore RHP Bobby Christy (Odessa, Fla./Sickles HS) threw 4.0 innings and held UCLA to only one run and struck out a career-high three batters.
- Graduate student RHP Jack Baird (Parker, Colo./Legend HS) threw 1.1 innings in relief and earned his second win of the season. Baird only allowed one hit, one run and struck out three Bruins.

Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) started the bottom of the first inning and put runners on the corners with no outs.
John Peck then hit a sac-fly to right field to give the Waves an early 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, the Bruins scored one run on two hits in the top of the third inning, tying the game 1-all. In the bottom of the third inning, Pepperdine loaded the bases with one out.
Charles Masino then roped a bases clearing double down the right field line to give Pepperdine a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, UCLA scored three runs on five hits to tie the game 4-all. In the bottom of the fifth inning,
Peck and
Quintt Landis hit back-to-back singles giving Pepperdine runners on second and third with one out.
Masino had a ground ball RBI to break the tie 5-4 in favor of the Waves.
UCLA scored one run on two hits knotting the game up 5-all, in the top of the sixth inning.
Schoen answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run blast to deep right center putting the Waves back on top 7-5.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Bruins scored one run on two hits to cut the deficit to one, 7-6. UCLA then tied the game again 7-all in the top of the ninth. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth,
Quintt Landis sent one right back up the middle. On a 2-2 count,
Masino then hit a walk-off single to right field to give the Waves the victory.

Pepperdine will hit the road and head to San Francisco for a three-game West Coast Conference series beginning on Friday, April 14 and concluding on Sunday, April 16. Game one on Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be live on the WCC Network.
