
Four Waves Go Yard in Loss to Pacific

The Waves (15-22, 7-11) had a 9-5 lead over the Tigers (12-25, 5-13) after the fourth inning, but the Tigers scored six unanswered runs to take the lead for the first time in the bottom of the sixth 11-9. Pepperdine tied the game 11-all on a two-run homer by Lincoln Orellana in the top of the eighth inning, but Pacific took the lead back 14-11 in the bottom half of the eighth and held on for the win.Â

BIG WAVES
- Junior infielder Lincoln Orellana (Apple Valley, Calif./Sheldon HS/Hawai'i/American River College) was 2-for-3 on the day including his fourth homer of the season, which was a two-run shot, and drew two walks. Orellana crossed home plate three times, which ties his career high. He is now on an 18 game on-base streak.
- Senior catcher Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) tied his career-high in hits going 3-for-4 on the day including his first homer of the season. Landis had two RBI, a stolen base and has reached base in 11 straight games.
- Junior outfielder Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) was 3-for-5 including a solo blast and three RBI.
- Senior infielder Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) hit his 14th home run of the season, which was a solo shot and ties him 10th on the single-season all-time list in home runs. Johnson is tied with Chris Martin (1990), Jared Pitney (2001), Hutton Moyer (2015) and former teammate Justin Lutes (2021).
- Sophomore RHP Bobby Christy (Odessa, Fla./Sickles HS) tied his career-high in strikeouts, sitting down three Tigers today.Â

Charles Masino got things going for the Waves in the top of the first inning as he sent one over the right field wall for a solo homer and made it 1-0. Pepperdine reached first after a throwing error by Pacific. Quintt Landis then went yard over the left field wall to bring in two runs, 3-0 in favor of the Waves. Lincoln Orellana beat out the throw from second for an infield single to give Pepperdine a runner with one out. Jack Basseer (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) drew a walk, which moved Orellana to second. Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity Pawling HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Cam Conley (Lincoln University, Pa./Malvern Prep) hit a line drive to center field for a sac to bring in a run and get the score at 4-0. Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo./Boulder HS) also drew a walk and loaded the bases for the second time in the top of the first. Masino had another at-bat in the inning and sent a two-run single to right field to give Pepperdine a 6-0 lead. The Tigers got one back in the bottom of the first inning after a two-out triple and a double, 6-1.

In the bottom of the second, Pacific added another run on a single to right center, 6-2. Ryan Johnson led off the top of the fourth inning with a solo blast over the right center wall, 7-2. After two walks and a pitching change for the Tigers, Basseer then hit a long single to center field, bringing around two Waves and made it 9-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Pacific got within four after scoring three runs on four hits. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers had runners on the corners and successfully had a double steal to score a run and get within three, 9-6. Pacific took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring five runs on six hits, 11-9.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Waves tied the game 11-all after a single down the right field line by Quintt Landis and a homer over the right field wall by Orellana. In the bottom half of the eighth, the Tigers took the lead back after scoring three runs on three hits, 14-11. In the top of the final frame, Masino hit a single through the left side with two outs. The Waves were then retired on a hard-hit fly ball to center.

- John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) has now reached base in 21 straight games. Peck had one walk on the day.
- Basseer is on a 17-game on-base streak.

The Waves do not have a midweek contest this week, and will be back on the field on Friday, April 28 for the start of a three-game WCC series hosting Santa Clara. First pitch for game one on Friday will be at 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the WCC Network.
