Waves Falter in Game One Against Tigers

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team fell 8-2 in game one of the West Coast Conference series against Pacific at Klein Family Field on Friday evening.
 
The Waves (14-21, 6-10) had a 1-0 lead over the Tigers (11-24, 4-12) in the top of the second, but Pacific then answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half to take the lead. The Tigers went on to add another five runs through the next two innings and the Waves were not able to tack a rally together for a comeback.

  • Junior shortstop John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) was 2-for-4 on the night and scored one run.
  • Freshman outfielder Jack Basseer (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) was 1-for-3 and had a RBI.
  • Junior outfielder Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity Pawling HS) had one hit and one RBI
  • Senior RHP Josiah Castillo (Corona, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) tied his career-high in strikeouts, sitting down two Tigers' tonight.
GAME RECAP
 
In the top of the second inning, the Waves scored first on a Connor Bradshaw single to right to make it 1-0. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the second with two runs on one hit to take a 2-1 lead. Pacific took advantage of a Pepperdine error to score another run and make it 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, the Tigers added four runs on four hits to make it 7-1.
 
After three scoreless innings for both squads, Pacific scored on a Pepperdine wild pitch to extend the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth, the Waves had the leadoff man on second. With one out, Lincoln Orellana (Apple Valley, Calif./Sheldon HS/Hawai'i/American River College) singled to right field to put runners on the corners. Jack Basseer hit a deep sac fly to center to bring in a run, 8-2. In the final out, the Waves were retired on a strikeout and the Tigers held onto the victory.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Waves and Tigers will play game two the series on Saturday, April 22 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the WCC Network.
