Jasper Garners MPSF Player of the Year Honor; Three Earn Postseason Recognition

MALIBU, Calif. – Three from the Pepperdine men's volleyball team earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation postseason acclaim as announced the league office on Tuesday afternoon, highlighted by graduate opposite Jaylen Jasper who was voted MPSF's Player of the Year.

In addition to Jasper's major award, he tabbed a spot on the All-MPSF first team, while junior setter Bryce Dvorak earned second team recognition and senior Akin Akinwumi marked honorable mention status.

Jasper (Annapolis, Md.) is the ninth Wave all-time to earn MPSF Player of the Year honors.  He follows previous Pepperdine greats David Wieczorek (2018, 2019), Paul Carroll (2009), Jonathan Winder (2007), Sean Rooney (2005), Brad Keenan (2002) and George Roumain (1998, 1999).

Jasper has garnered MPSF postseason honors five times throughout his career, including two since joining the Waves in 2022 and three while playing for Stanford.  It is his third first team honor.  Jasper was named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week four times this season and AVCA National Player of the Week once.  On March 24, he tied the Pepperdine men's volleyball program record for most kills in a single match during the rally scoring era after putting down 37 at BYU.  He currently ranks second nationally with 5.02 kills and 5.51 points per set and seventh with 9.08 attacks per set.  Jasper marked double-figure kills in 26 of the Waves' 29 matches this season, including two with over 30-kills and 12 with over 20-kills.  Throughout the season, he maintained a .371 hitting percentage, impressive after putting up 963 total attacks.  He also amassed 0.19 aces, 1.34 digs and 0.53 blocks per set this season.

Dvorak (Newport Beach, Calif.) picked up his third-consecutive MPSF second team honor this season and is one of only five on this year's postseason lists who has achieved the feat three times.  He earned MPSF Offensive Player of the Week honors early in the season in January and currently ranks second nationally with 10.70 assists/set.  He helped lead the Waves to also rank second nationally with 13.07 kills/set, third with 12.29 assists/set and seventh with a .331 hitting percentage.  Dvorak marked two double-doubles this season in assists and digs and led the team in assists in all 29 matches, digs in nine matches and blocks in four.  He also produced 1,166 total assists, while adding 38 aces (0.35 per set), 152 digs (1.39 per set) and 43 blocks (0.39 per set).

Akinwumi (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) earned his first MPSF postseason award with the honorable mention nod.  He ranks ninth nationally with a solid .426 hitting percentage and led the Waves in blocks 17 times this season.  He tallied 1.85 kills, 0.36 aces, 0.85 blocks and 2.65 point per set this season for Pepperdine.

Pepperdine opens MPSF Tournament action on Wednesday, April 19 as the #5 seed, going head-to-head with #4-seeded Grand Canyon at 8:05 p.m.
