Baseball's Johnson Named WCC Player of the Week

MALIBU, Calif. – Ryan Johnson of the Pepperdine baseball team was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week following the weekend in the South Alabama Invitational and a mid-week game against CSUN. Johnson batted over .571 through four games.

Johnson, a senior infielder from Tempe, Ariz., had a phenomenal week as he started all four games and hit .571 (8-for-14) with 11 RBI and seven runs scored. He recorded one hit against CSUN on Tuesday. On opening night of the South Alabama Invitational against South Alabama, Johnson roped a three-run blast in his first at-bat. He went on to go 3-for-3 on the night with two home runs, his second was a solo shot in the eighth inning, and tied his career-high in RBI with five.

He reached base in every plate appearance against host South Alabama also earning two walks. In game two against Southern, Johnson again hit a home run in his first at-bat giving Pepperdine a 2-0 lead early on. He was 2-for-3 against the Southern Jaguars, with both hits being home runs and he brought in five RBI for the second consecutive game. In the final game of the weekend, Johnson hit a solo blast over the center field wall to ultimately give the Waves its only run of the game. He had a single later on against the Hawkeyes and was 2-for-4.

This marks the second honor of his career, and the first for the Waves this season.

Pepperdine plays a midweek game against UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, March 7 in Santa Barbara. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. and the game will be live on ESPN+.
