Baseball's Patrick Rooney Memorial Golf Tournament Set for November 16

MOORPARK, Calif. - Pepperdine baseball is set to host the Patrick Rooney Memorial Golf Tournament on November 16, 2026 at Tierra Rejada Golf Club in Moorpark, California.
The event will help support the baseball program while also celebrating the life and legacy of Patrick Rooney, who played infield (primarily third base) for the Waves from 2002-2005. Rooney and his father Bill tragically passed away in a plane crash on Sunday, January 11, 2009.
Steve Rodriguez, who was the head coach at the time and had served as Special Assistant to the Head Coach this past spring, said in a story published January 13, 2009 "Anyone who knows the Rooney's sees that family always comes first for them. They really understand the true meaning of family, and I believe that as Christians and people who have a strong faith in God, the Rooney's will be able to get through this tragic time."

After finishing his collegiate career in 2005, Patrick ranked third in program history with 242 games played and 882 at-bats. Of his 238 career hits, 55 went for extra bases, slotting him inside the top-10 by 2007. Graduating with a degree in Advertising, Patrick received honorable mention All-WCC in 2003, and he garnered honorable mention Freshman All-American in 2002. In his time with the Waves, Patrick helped Pepperdine win two WCC titles and reach a trio of NCAA Regional berths.We join @MLB and the baseball community in celebrating Roberto Clemente on this day for his stewardship, sportsmanship, and community involvement.
