GAME RECAP

Charles Masino led off the game with a single through the left side. After one out, Johnson saw a beautiful pitch on a full count and sent one out of the park over the left field fence to give Pepperdine an early 2-0 lead. The Waves had back-to-back walks courtesy of Lincoln Orellana and Jack Basseer (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS). Pepperdine was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) hit a ball deep to center for a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 in favor of Pepperdine.

In the top of the second, Jack Goodman (Medfield, Mass./Medfield HS) sent a pitch right back up the middle to give Pepperdine its first base runner of the inning. With one out, John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) roped a double off the left center wall that scored Goodman and made it 4-0. Orellana hit a double down the left field line that brought Peck across the plate and added to the Waves' lead.

After a scoreless third inning, the Waves' hot bats continued in the top of the fourth as Johnson smacked his second two-run homer of the game to give Pepperdine a 7-0 lead. Another two scoreless innings for both squads brought the Waves to the top of the seventh inning where the solid hitting resumed. The Waves got runners on base by a walk and hit by pitch. Greg Mehlhaff sent a single to right center to load the bases. Pepperdine was yet again hit by a pitch, which brought in another run to make it 8-0. Luke Pemberton then hit a double to the warning track in left center, having two more runs come across the plate. Pepperdine took advantage of a Southern passed ball and brought in the 11th run of the game. Johnson hit a deep sacrifice fly to left to allow the 12th run for Pepperdine to cross the plate.

In the top of the eighth with two outs, Quintt Landis doubled down the right field line. On an 0-2 count for Mehlhaff, he took the next pitch out of the park for a two-run shot to give the Waves a 14-0 lead. Pepperdine retired the Jaguars in order in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Pemberton earned a walk to lead off the top of the ninth. With one out, Johnson was hit by a pitch to give Pepperdine two base runners. Nolan Lingley (Tracy, Calif./Ripon Christian HS) stepped in the box for the first time of the day and singled to left to load the bases. Devon Walczykowski (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Jesuit HS) came up to bat for the second time and took the first pitch he saw to left center scoring two runs.
