GAME RECAP

In the top of the first inning, with two-outs, Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) and Lincoln Orellana (Apple Valley, Calif./Sheldon HS/Hawai'i/American River College) hit back-to-back singles. With runners on first and second, Quintt Landis sent one right back up the middle to bring in Johnson and give the Waves a 1-0 lead. The Matadors answered in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run.

John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) led off the top of the third inning with an infield single. Johnson drew a walk and then Orellana was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pepperdine took advantage of a CSUN wild pitch, scoring a run to take a 2-1 lead. Landis then had an RBI sac fly to center field to make it 3-1. Jack Basseer brought in the fourth run after a double to left field. In the bottom half of the third, CSUN cut the deficit in half on a Pepperdine wild pitch, 4-2.

The Matadors tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run blast over the left field wall, 4-all, and then took the lead, 5-4, after a single up the middle. The Waves were held scoreless for the final two innings and were retired in order in the top of the ninth.
