PHOENIX, Ariz. – The #18 Pepperdine beach volleyball team opened up the Canyon Classic hosted by Grand Canyon on Friday afternoon, defeating Arizona State 4-1 and sweeping past UC Davis 5-0.

Eight of the nine Waves' pairs wins were done in two sets. The Waves' No. 2 pair,
Savannah Standage and
Kate Clermont remained undefeated at 2-0 on the day and have won 10-straight so far this season.

McKenna Thomas and
Alexus McLeod clinched the match for the Waves (8-2) against Arizona State (4-4) from the No. 1 position.Â

MATCH RECAPS
The Waves dominated the first flight of the day, with pairs on courts two and four winning in straight sets.Â
Savannah Standage and
Kate Clermont won their match first, 21-14, 21-12 in the No. 2 position, before
Gracey Campbell and
Gabriella Perez defeated their opposition 21-19, 22-20 on court four.Â

McKenna Thomas and
Alexus McLeod then clinched the dual with a 21-16, 21-18 win on the top court.Â
Kristine Briede and
Madison Oriskovich continued positively for Pepperdine as the duo won in the No. 5 position, 21-19, 21-14.  The Sun Devils were able to take a two-set win on court three to finish the match and avoid the sweep.

In the second match against UC Davis, the Waves once again came out swinging, with Campbell and Perez winning 21-18, 21-16 on court four to go on the board early. Standage and Clermont split their opening sets 22-20 and 13-21 on court two, but stayed strong for a 15-9 win in the third to remain undefeated.

In the next flight, Pepperdine would be successful yet again as all three pairs would win in straight sets. Thomas and McLeod took down their opponents with a pair of 21-16 set wins on court one.Â
Jasmin Suarez and
Gracie Pedersen picked up a 21-14, 21-13 win on court three and Briede and Oriskovich closed things down with a 21-9, 21-15 win in the No. 5 slot.
