LAS VEGAS, Nev. –
William Mouw fired a 7-under 65 during an extremely competitive third round at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday, helping the Pepperdine men's golf team to a third-place finish against a highly competitive 15-team field.
The Waves had a three-day score of an 18-under 846 (278-286-282) at the par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club. There were four teams ranked in the Golfstat top-10, including tournament-winner #7 Illinois, as well as 10 in the top-30. The #14 Waves were unable to overcome the Illini and #16 Texas who led by three and one stroke(s) respectively, though the squad did have the edge over #4 North Carolina by two strokes, #9 Oklahoma by three strokes and #8 Georgia Tech and #11 Florida by eight strokes.
Mouw's 7-under tied for the best round of the day, though he finished tied for fifth with an 8-under after three complete rounds. There were 84 golfers competing in the tournament.
PLAYER SCORES
- Senior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) had a three-day total of 208 (72-71-65), shooting under par twice, including his score of 65 which tied his season-best and is one-shy of his career-high. He collected on six birdies and one eagle in the final round, while marking 13 birdies throughout the tournament.
- Graduate Sam Choi (Anaheim, Calif./New Mexico) had a strong start to the tournament, coming into the final round tied for third, though a 5-over in the round would see him finish tied for 16th. He impressed in the first round with three eagles and tallied 10 additional birdies throughout the week, though he would finish at 212 (64-71-77).
- Graduate Roberto Nieves (Miami, Fla./Delaware) finished tied for 28th with a score of 216 (70-72-74). He posted nine birdies throughout, including three in the final round.
- Graduate Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) finished tied for 40th with a three-day score of 218 (72-74-72), while graduate Luke Gifford (Boca Raton, Fla./South Florida) tied for 59th at 223 (80-72-71).
- Sophomore Ian Maspat (San Diego, Cali./Scripps Ranch HS) competed as an individual and finished tied for 70th with a three-day total of 225 (75-71-79).

The Waves will have a week off before traveling to Tucson, Ariz. on March 17-18 for the NIT, hosted by Arizona.
