LA QUINTA, Calif. – William Mouw shot an 8-under 65, one shy of his career best 18-hole round, to lead the Pepperdine men's golf to take the lead after 18 holes of play on Monday to open The Prestige.
The #15 Waves shot 8-under collectively at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST with a score of 276. The team will head into the second round one-shot ahead of #6 Stanford and three ahead of #3 Texas Tech and #42 TCU.
Mouw will enter the second round with a one-shot lead over the Cardinal's Michael Thorbjornsen and Texas Tech's Tyran Snyders. His career-best 18-hole score was an 8-under 64 as a freshman at the Amer Ari Invitational in 2020.
PLAYER SCORES
- Senior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) eagled on 12 to highlight the day, but also posted five birdies and only one bogey throughout the round.
- Graduate Sam Choi (Anaheim, Calif./New Mexico) is tied for tied-10th after going 2-under 69 in the first round. He marked five birdies.
- Graduate Luke Gifford (Boca Raton, Fla./South Florida) shot a 70, 1-under with two birdies and only one bogey.
- Graduate Roberto Nieves (Miami, Fla./Delaware) is tied for 37th after shooting 1-over 72 and graduate Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied-45th after shooting 2-over 73.

The second round of stroke play will continue tomorrow and the Waves will be paired with Stanford and Texas Tech. The Waves will start on the 10
th tee beginning at 6:45 a.m. PT.
