
Baseball Drops Rubber Match to Boston College

The Eagles (2-1) clinched the series 2-1 over the Waves (1-2).

BIG WAVES
- Freshman infielder Jack Basseer (Peasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) went 3-for-4 on the day and crossed the plate once. Basseer collected his first three-hit game in a Waves' uniform.
- Graduate student infielder Greg Mehlhaff (Gresham, Ore./Clackamas HS) hit his first home run of the season, which was a two-run shot to right field.
- Senior infielder Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) also went yard for the first time this season.
- Junior infielder John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) raked his second homer of the season. Peck also crossed the plate twice.

In the top of the second inning, the Eagles took advantage of a Waves' error and scored four runs to take an early 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Waves had bases loaded with only one out. Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) was hit by a pitch, which scored the first runner for the Waves. Jack Goodman (Medfield, Mass./Medfield HS) had a sacrifice fly that was deep in right field to score Basseer to cut the Eagle's lead in half, 4-2.

Peck led off the bottom of the third inning with a walk. On the first pitch, Mehlhaff saw at the plate, he took it over the right field fence to tie the game at 4-all. Johnson picked out his pitch as well and sent it over the left field fence to give the Waves a 5-4 lead.

The Eagles tied the game in the top of the fourth inning with a solo homerun. Boston College put together a rally and scored eight runs on five hits to take the lead back at 12-5. In the top of the fifth inning, the Eagles tacked on another run after a sacrifice fly to left field.

Boston College scored four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to increase the lead to 17-5. In the top of the eighth inning Cameron Leary of BC hit a solo home run and made the score 18-5. In the bottom of the ninth, Peck led off with a solo blast over the left field fence, but the Waves were unable to continue the rally.

The Waves will travel crosstown from Malibu to match up with #12 UCLA on Tuesday, Feb. 21. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will be live on the Pac-12 insider.
