Pepperdine Hosts UCSB to Open Big Homestand

MALIBU, California – After four weeks on the road to open the season, the Pepperdine men's tennis program begins its 11-match home schedule with a single match this week as the Waves host UC Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon.

ATTENDANCE: Attendance is free to each home match at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center this season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Pepperdine has dominated the series with the Gauchos, winning 37 of 41 meetings. In Malibu, Pepperdine is 26-3 against the Big West foe. In their last meeting, Pepperdine defeated UCSB 4-1 in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
 
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine dropped its lone match last week, falling 5-2 on the road in a hard-fought match to #7 Texas. The Waves took the doubles point and #104 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) took down a top-35 opponent in singles. Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany) leads the Waves with three singles wins, while De Jonge and Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany), ranked #38 in the country, have the best doubles record on the team at 3-2 tied with Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) and Eric Hadigian (Sacramento, Calif.). Zeitvogel is ranked #89 in the latest ITA singles rankings. Following standout performances in Texas, De Jonge was named the WCC singles player of the week, while he and Zeitvogel were named the league's doubles team of the week.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
UCSB has been impressive to start the dual season, rattling off eight straight wins – including five on the road. Last Saturday, the Gauchos took down LMU 4-3 at home. Pablo Masjuan is ranked 81st in singles by the ITA, while Kai Brady and Phillip Jordan are ranked 28th in doubles.
