SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — For the second straight week, Pepperdine women's basketball forward Jorynn Ross was named the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
This is the first time a Wave has won multiple WCC Freshman of the Week honors in the same season since 2021-22. Ross (Milwaukee, Wisc./Summer Creek HS) is the first Pepperdine player to earn this title in consecutive weeks since the award was implemented in the 2020-21 season. Last week, Ross was the conference's freshman of the week after having a career-high scoring night in the Waves' win over Cal State Bakersfield.
Less than six hours after being named the WCC Freshman of the Week for the first time, Ross had the best game of her young collegiate career with a 16-point, seven-rebound outing in Pepperdine's loss to NAU last Monday. Both figures were not only career highs, but also game highs for the Waves. Ross went 7-for-13 from the field, a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and added two steals and a block on defense.
She has set single-game scoring highs in each of the last five games dating back to the Nov. 27 game against Long Beach State, in which she scored six points off the bench. Since then, Ross has averaged 10.2 points (on 66.67% shooting), 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks in 24 minutes per game. Currently, Ross is connecting on 53.7% of her field goals on the season, which leads the Waves.
Ross and the Waves will be back in action on Dec. 29 against Cal State LA in the first half of a doubleheader with the men's team at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.pepperdinewaves.com.
