SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — After setting several career highs in the Pepperdine women's basketball team's 80-60 win over Cal State Bakersfield last Saturday, freshman forward Jorynn Ross earned West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week honors on Monday.
This is the first WCC Freshman of the Week honor for Ross (Milwaukee, Wisc./Summer Creek HS) and the first for Pepperdine since the 2021-22 season.
Last Saturday against the Roadrunners, Ross scored 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field and was one of five Waves who finished in double figures. She also pulled down five rebounds (two offensive and three defensive), while dishing out a career-high four assists, blocking one shot and recording one steal in 26 minutes of play. Her first basket of the game sparked a huge second-quarter run, in which she either scored or assisted on 10 of Pepperdine's 19 points.
Ross has been playing her best basketball as of late. Over the last four games, Ross is averaging 8.8 points — on a red-hot 73.9% shooting — and 3.8 rebounds in 21 minutes per contest. After scoring a then-career-high six points against Long Beach State on Nov. 27, Ross reset her career-best scoring night in each of the following three games.
Today, Ross and the Waves will take on Northern Arizona at 2 p.m., then they will be back in action on Dec. 29 to host Cal State LA before embarking on WCC play.
