MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine men's water polo players Sandor Gal and Nico Tierney earned West Coast Conference All-Academic honorable mention honors, as announced by the league today.
To earn the award, players must hold a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term, be a starter or an important reserve with appearances in at least 50% of the team's games and be at least a sophomore with a minimum of one year in residence completed at their school.
Gal, a pre-businesses admin major with a 3.247 GPA, competed in all 31 games and had a total of 67 points with 31 goals and 36 assists. This award marks the second time Gal has earned an academic honor, as he received ACWPC All-Academic honors last year.
Majoring in sport administration with a 3.279 GPA, Tierney earned an All-WCC second team selection after having an excellent season for the Waves. He competed in 27 of the 31 games while contributing 38 goals, 20 assists and 18 steals. This is Tierney's third academic award; he received ACWPC All-Academic honors in 2022 and earned a spot on the GCC All-Academic team in 2021.
This fall, the Waves earned the top seed in the inaugural WCC Tournament, where they fell to California Baptist in the semifinals.Â
